President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today inaugurated the Water Supply Service to Meemu Atoll Kolhufushi, after marking the completion of the coastal protection project in the island.
The president inaugurated the project at a ceremony held at the island's port today, as part of his presidential election campaign.
The coastal protection project of the island was awarded to MTCC by the Planning Ministry.
As part of the project, 5,575 cubic meters of the sea floor was filled, 4,108 cubic meters of the central waste area was filled, 518 meters of revetment was constructed and 202 meters of outer fencing was carried out.
The project was worth MVR 22.9 million.
The water supply project to the island was awarded by the Planning Ministry to the country's SMC Infrastructure Private Limited under the Exim Bank of India's $800 million Line of Credit facility.
The project is estimated to cost USD 3 million.
