One of MDP's top activists, Shamoon Jaleel (Lucas) has resigned from his role as a Director at the Heritage and Cultural Ministry on Thursday.
Announcing his resignation from the government, Shamoon posted his resignation letter on social media. He however did not specify the reasons for his resignation.
In the letter addressed to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Shamoon said, "Today I have resigned from my political position in the government, working in the government is quite an experience, and I am grateful to the President for maintaining the closeness."
Since Lucas is close to Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, some have said he resigned from the government to leave the party and join The Democrats, which was founded by Nasheed. Therefore, some people have said that Shamoon is expected to sign at the for The Democrats tonight, where Nasheed will also be signing for the party.
