Former tourism minister Ali Waheed, who has been in self-exile since being accused of sexual harassment of female employees, has returned to Maldives.
The charges against Ali Waheed have been dropped by Criminal Court after Prosecutor General (PG)'s Office failed to summon Ali Waheed for the hearings.
Ali Waheed returned after almost two years in the UK and informed the media he has no charges against him.
Maldives Correctional Service has also confirmed that Ali Waheed has no outstanding charges against him.
Speaking to the media upon his return, Ali Waheed stated that President Solih was not involved in the MMPRC corruption case. However, Ali Waheed had previously accused President Solih of taking over MVR 35 million from MMPRC funds. He told the media that President Solih and former president Yameen Abdul Qayoom are not involved in framing him.
Ali Waheed further stated that he will be seen active in the political platform, but that he has not made any deals with a political party. When asked which party he would work with, Ali Waheed stated that he has worked closely with MDP, PPM, and JP and respects the party leaders.
"I think I will work with whoever makes Dhoonidhoo a resort. The culture of imprisoning people without just cause needs to come to an end," Ali Waheed stated.
