Speaker of Parliament and former president Mohamed Nasheed has stated that instead of contesting in the presidential elections, both Nasheed and former president Yameen should work together to bring the current administration's tenure to an end.

Speaking at the party's inauguration ceremony held at Ghiyaasuddin International School on Wednesday night, Nasheed stated that he has never condoned anyone being imprisoned. He added that Yameen has served the nation in multiple ways.

"I believe the two of us should work together to bring the change that the public wants, instead of contesting in the elections," Nasheed said.

Nasheed added that the politicians have a responsibility to change the government owing to the criticism President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government continues to receive from the public.

"We are political leaders who have formed political parties for the betterment of the public. We have a responsibility put aside our personal interests in favour of the public interest," Nasheed said.

Nasheed added that he is confident the opposition parties can find common ground to do what is best for the nation.
