The total number of tourist arrivals recorded during the month of June stood at 120,300, which marks a high for the off-season numbers.

Maldives marks the off-season as the months between May and August, which usually sees a significant dip in tourist arrival numbers. However, recent trends show an increase in Chinese tourists during June and July, causing an increase in their occupancy. The Chinese Market dominates source markets during the off-season, while the European market sees a dip in numbers.

According to statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism, 120,363 tourist arrivals were recorded by the end of June. This marks an 8.5 percent increase in comparison to the same period last year which saw 110,885 arrivals.

However, the number during the month of May this year, was 3.6 percent lower in comparison to the same period last year. This May recorded 120,959 arrivals while May 2022 saw 125,528 arrivals.

The government aims to bring 1.8 million arrivals by the end of the year. The Tourism Ministry had previously stated that they are hopeful that the target will be reached by the end of the year.
