President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated on Sunday that those eligible for land plots under 'Binveriya' scheme will receive land plots in August.

President Solih made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of K. Gulhifalhu land reclamation project. He highlighted the scarcity of land in greater Male' region, adding that the housing scheme will provide some relief to the residents.

He noted that this is by far the biggest project in greater Male' region to provide housing to the residents. President Solih stated that at least 2,000 land plots will be given from K. Gulhifalhu to the residents. He added that the project will add an additional 150 hectares of land to Gulhifalhu.

"We will review the complaints and appeals and hopefully begin handover of land plots to the eligible residents by August this year," President Solih stated.

President Solih added that 20 hectares of land have been reclaimed from Giraavarufalhu from where residents will receive 2,000 land plots as well. Under this scheme, 2,200 land plots will be given from Hulhumale', with a combined total of 6,200 plots given in the first round of 'Binveriya' Scheme.

President Solih stated that the residents in Male' City have been living in dire conditions and that for the first time in 40 years, the residents will be receiving some relief when it comes to housing issues. He added that 'Binveriya' scheme will continue until all eligible residents receive land plots.

Out of the 23,088 applicants, 19,850 applicants fulfill the criteria for the scheme. President Solih had previously announced that all eligible applicants will receive land plots.

Speaking to the press on 26 June 2023, Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam stated that 10,314 applicants will receive 5,000 plots in the first round.
