Male' City Council has decided to close off areas in the city during Eid upon public request.
The decision was made during the Council's 107th General Meeting.
City Council stated that the decision was made so that the public can hold Eid celebration activities in their neighbourhoods and that closing off certain areas instead of banning vehicles from all roads will provide convenience to everyone.
Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muiz stated that this decision would allow people to have eid celebrations in certain areas without hindering those that need to travel on vehicles.
On previous Eid occasions, vehicles were banned altogether during certain times. This year, Eid falls on 28 June.
