Water and sewerage development of Hulhumale Phase 2 officially began on Thursday.
The works were initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during an event held in Hulhumale. He was joined by Managing Director of MWSC, Adam Azim and Managing Director of HDC, Suhail Ahmed.
Speaking during the event, Adam Azim said that one of the biggest pledges of the current government was to provide water and sewerage systems for all islands within his five year term. He noted that the team of MWSC was ready to assist the President in his works.
He highlighted that the development of water and sewerage system in hulhumale was previously budget for MVR 42 million. However MWSC is currently undertaking the project for merely MVR 15 million. This would save the government about MVR 27 million.
While MWSC has officially begun works to develop a water and sewerage system to cater for about 140,000 people, the company assured that works will conclude by 2020z
