Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed evaded questions by journalists who quizzed him on whether he would be running for the 2023 Presidential Election.
Speaking during a press conference at the Parliament, Nasheed noted that he is not interested in the Presidency, adding that he is more interested in creating an atmosphere where Maldivians are not forced to live in such tension.
Nasheed highlighted that you do not have to be in the Presidency to serve the people.
However, he refused to directly answer any questions about whether the ballot paper will contain his name this year.
Supporters of Nasheed are currently working on registering a new party under the name The Democrats, who claim that they will produce a candidate for the election.
