The November 3rd coup leader, H. Haajaraage Abdulla Luthufee has completed his life in prison sentence.

Lutuhufee was arrested for working with the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) to stage a coup on November 3rd, 1988 to overthrow the Maldivian government. He was originally given a death sentence, however, then President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom changed his sentence to a life sentence, which is equivalent to 25 years in jail.

A trusted source within Maldives Corrections revealed to One Online that Luthufee had completed serving his sentence. However, he is still serving an additional of seven months and six days prison sentence, after he fled the country under the guise of medical treatment.

After Luthufee escaped during medical treatment abroad on 16th January 2010, the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Service ordered Maldives Police Service to find and hand him over to the department to enforce the prison sentence on 26th March 2012.

Luthufee was repatriated on 9th July 2019.
