Ooredoo Maldives' has opened application for the annual Mas Race for 2023.

Ooredoo Maldives said on Thursday that the registration is open to the public until 1 July 2023. Interested parties can sign up on https://go.ooredoo.mv/masrace/

Ooredoo added that the Mas Race kits are available on Moolee for MVR 150. Ooredoo added that each team will include 12 members including captain and officials.

This year's Mas Race will be held in four cities on the following dates:

  • Male' City: 4 August
  • Kulhudhuffushi City: 11 August
  • Addu City: 18 August
  • Fuvahmulah City: 25 August

Ooredoo stated that a minimum of 12 teams will compete in every city, with a maximum participation of 30 teams. If more than 30 teams apply, teams will be chosen by draw and the teams which are not selected will receive a full refund.

Winning teams and best fisherman and fisherwoman will receive prize money, Ooredoo said.

  • First Place: MVR 25,000
  • Second Place: MVR 10,000
  • Third Place: MVR 5,000
  • Best Fisherman: MVR 1,000
  • Best Fisherwoman: MVR 1,000

Ooredoo Maldives is organizing Mas Race in collaboration with Fisheries Ministry. Ooredoo's CEO and Managing Director Khalid Al Hamadi noted the support the Ministry extends to Ooredoo for the event.

He stated that this year's event has been expanded to four different cities to increase participation from the public.

Fisheries Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan stated that this event would enable awareness amongst the public on protecting natural resources and provides an opportunity to preserve the fishing culture in the country.
