Environment Ministry has brought in equipment needed for operation of the waste transfer station in Male' City and Vilimale'.

The Ministry stated on Wednesday that the equipment has been transferred to Thilafushi.

The equipment include roller packers, street sweeper, arm roll truck, wheel loader, forklift, waste container, mobile conveyor and a fuel storage unit.

The vehicles and equipment were sourced through Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the administration as part of the waste management project in greater Male' region. As such, the Ministry stated the vehicles and equipment brought in are work MVR 47.8 million.

China State Construction and Engineering (CSCE) has been contracted with the project, and will be installing the equipment and commissioning the vehicles which have been brought in from Germany and China.

Environment Ministry stated that the new waste transfer station will compact waste and transfer it to Thilafushi in containers.

The waste transfer stations in Male' City and Vilimale' will operate in WAMCO's existing sites, the Ministry said. The stations are designed to accommodate small and medium pick ups and large dump trucks with convenience.

CSEC was contracted with the new waste management station development project for MVR 184 million.
