President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that water and sewerage projects that were done for MVR 70 million during former President Abdulla Yameen’s tenure are currently being done for MVR 30 million.
Speaking during the MDP campaign event in F. Bileidhoo on Wednesday morning, the President noted that he only pledges projects he has confidence in. He added that previous bids for developmental projects such as water and sewerage systems during the previous administration showed concerning amounts of corruption.
This includes projects which were awarded for MVR 70 million back then, which are now being done as low as MVR 27 million.
“We’re really easily able to figure out the corruption because of the prices we are now receiving, upon reopening these for bidding. Projects that were awarded for MVR 70 million are now coming down to a range of MVR 27 million to MVR 30 million,” the President highlighted.
The President stressed that this was yet another sign of the massive corruption that tainted the previous government.
He added that basic necessities such as road development and water and sewerage projects were easily feasible with the state revenue.
“We know that basic necessities such as roads, harbors water and sewerage systems are things that could be easily developed with the state revenue. So we are fully confident that we will be able to fullfill our pledges,” he noted.
