MDP Parliamentary Group Leader Mohamed Aslam has stated that the works of the Parliament cannot be kept at a standstill, adding that the PG Group will go to the Supreme Court if necessary.

Several committees of the Parliament have been at a standstill after a recent change in the composition of the Parliament. This also includes the General Purpose Committee which decides the time length for debates on the no-confidence motions against Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla.

The General Purpose Committee works have been at a standstill after the committee Head and Deputy Head resigned.

Following the committee standstill and discontinuation of important works, many have come to believe that the Parliament is now in a deadlock. MDP PG Group has also been vocal about the lack of important issues on the agenda of the Parliament.

Speaking on a program by Raajje TV, Aslam noted that works to find a solution to this within the Parliament would be conducted to a certain extent, noting that there were other legal options that could be explored.

Aslam noted that they could also go to the Supreme Court to find a solution to the issue, however, added that he personally does not believe in doing so. But he remained adamant that if the situation comes, he would be ready to do it.
