President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that his administration will provide free housing for people without an income and a home, till they are able to earn a living.
The president made the statement during a campaign event held at Artificial Beach by MDP.
He added that the government intends to provide assistance for those who are unable to meet rent and ends from their current income.
“Will make it easier to purchase flats for those who are interested and make arrangements for a lui loan to be available for them,” he added.
The President highlighted that the biggest challenge Maldivians face today was the lack of housing, especially those who were living in the capital. He stressed that this directly affected the quality of living, and that it can only be better when the housing issues are solved.
Talking about the works of former President Abdulla Yameen, he noted that some works were carried out for housing by his government. However none of the units developed by his government were suitable for living.
