Jumhooree Party (JP) on Friday night presented it's Presidential Ticket to party leader Qasim Ibrahim.
The ticket was presented to Qasim during a special ceremony at the Carnival Area, by Secretary General of JP, Ali Arif. During the ceremony, Qasim also launched the campaign slogan and song.
Their slogan is 'Haas Kandaala!, Hamajeheyne!" loosely translated as 'Don't Worry, Everything Will Be Alright.'
During a council meeting of JP last April, they had decided that Qasim will run as a candidate for the Presidential Election and that the party will make coalitions with interested parties.
JP is currently part of the ruling coalition and has various Ministers and political appointees on their slots.
Some of the notable members include Vice President Faisal Naseem and Transport Minister Aishath Nahula.
MDP had extended invitations to form a coalition with JP for this year's election, however, JP did not change their stand on running for the election.
After JP decided to run, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih stated that it would not be possible to work with people who have changed their ideologies, and noted that if JP could not be part of the coalition till the election then the coalition agreement must be terminated.
Adhaalath Party and MDA are the only parties who have formed a coalition with MDP this year. While MRM is part of the ruling coalition, they have not decided to support the President for a re-election yet.
JP had also extended invitations to form coalitions with them, though no party has shown interest yet.
Qasim competed in the 2008 election where he received 27,056 votes and later contested in the 2013 election where he received 48,131 votes.
