Male' City Council has been fined MVR 45,000 for violating waste management regulations.

Environment Protection Agency (EPA) issued a statement on Thursday which said the Agency has received multiple complaints that the City Council was dumping waste onto one of their grounds.

EPA stated that City Council has been found to pick up waste from Male' streets and dump it onto their grounds near Edhuru Hiyaa overnight before throwing it away the next day.

EPA verified the complaints against Male' City Council.

"As such, in accordance with the Environment Protection and Preservation Act, Male' City Council has been fined MVR 45,000 on 8 June 2023, to be paid within 30 days," EPA stated.

EPA further ordered City Council to obtain permits to manage waste and to do so according to the regulations.
