National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has begun providing financial aid to 116 households in 6 islands affected by bad weather.

NDMA stated on Thursday that the Authority has received forms from 11 islands filing damages due to weather conditions. Islands that have reached out to NDMA include GA. Dhaandhoo, HA. Thuraakunu, GDh. Madaveli, Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, B. Fehendhoo, and all the islands in Addu City. NDMA has received a total of 163 forms of which 125 are from Addu City.

NDMA stated that the Authority has begun works to provide MVR 531,370 to 116 households:

GDh. Madaveli - MVR 57,949

S. Hulhudhoo - MVR 8,460

S. Hithadhoo - MVR 42,225

S. Meedhoo - MVR 1,044

S. Feydhoo - MVR 402,102

S. Maradhoo - MVR 19,590

  • NDMA said that 61 percent of the funds are being provided to compensate for structural damages, and the remaining 39 percent cover basic household items. NDMA added that farm land, businesses, outer walls, and garages are not included in the list for compensation.
  • NDMA further added that the Authority is working on assessing the damages to Kudahuvadhoo to compensate for damages.
