Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has highlighted the importance of parties discussing with each other to reshuffle parliament committees.

Opening today's parliament session, Speaker Nasheed stated that since the parties have not been able to come to an agreement, all permanent committees of the parliament has come to a standstill.

He noted that since the number of members who have changed parties has increased, the changes need to be reflected in the committees.

Parliament committees came to a standstill after 12 members of ruling MDP quit the party, and formed a new party under the name The Democrats. Nasheed brought a stop to the committee works after stating that the change in parties and their members need to be reflected in the committees.

Although he has been stating that the issue will be submitted to the parliament floor every week since the issue is yet to be submitted.

North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam had indirectly hinted yesterday that Speaker Nasheed is behind the prolonged standstill of parliament committees.

Speaking during a PG press conference yesterday, MP Aslam noted that Speaker Nasheed has been saying that the standstill is continuing since the parties are yet to reach an agreement regarding the committees. However, he highlighted that only one meeting has been held regarding the issue, adding that MDP has agreed to a new formation.
