India has topped the source markets for tourist arrivals as the number has crossed 800,000 so far.

According to statistics published by the Ministry of Tourism, 821,247 tourist arrivals were recorded by Thursday. This marks a 15.1 percent increase in comparison to the same period last year which saw 713,598 arrivals.

India tops the source markets with 95,851, beating Russia by a narrow margin which stands at number two with 95,780 arrivals. The United Kingdom came in third, followed by Germany and Italy while China remains at number six. Only 47,690 arrivals have been recorded from China so far.

The statistics also show that an average daily of 5،512 arrivals is recorded, who stay for 7 to 8 days in the Maldives.

The government aims to bring 1.8 million arrivals by the end of the year. The Tourism Ministry had previously stated that they are hopeful that the target will be reached by the end of the year.
