President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the southern R. Atoll airport will be developed in Beriyanfaru.

Island Councils of R. Meedhoo, R. Rasmaadhoo, R. Innamaadhoo, and R. Kinolhas had appealed to President Solih to develop the airport in Beriyanfaru. The request by the councils come at a time while R. Madduvari Council had requested the administration to develop the airport in R. Fussaru.

Planning Ministry has set a budget of MVR 23.6 million for the development of a third airport in R. Atoll.

President Solih pledged to build an airport in Southern R. Atoll since Ifuru Airport is not convenient for all the residents in the Atoll. The administration had also announced an airport project in R. Alifushi as well.

Speaking at the inauguration of Gan International Airport Development Project, President Solih stated that the administration is working on connecting the nation via air travel.
