Attorney General (AG) Ibrahim Riffath's no-confidence motion has been scheduled for Monday.

The motion was initially scheduled for last Wednesday. However, Speaker of Parliament rescheduled the motion to seek counsel from Supreme Court over AG Riffath's request to submit his defence in writing.

The decision was made following varying opinions on the request during the Parliament meeting. Opposition members stated that AG should be present in Parliament for his defence and may bring any documentation they require with them. MDP members, argued that the Parliament can accept the request to submit defence in writing.

The motion has been scheduled for Monday following AG Riffath's request to present his defence in person.

AG Riffath sent a letter addressed to Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed on Thursday. In the letter, AG stated that he is ready to present his defence in person.

AG Riffath added that he had not received a reply to his initial request even by last Wednesday.
