National carrier, Maldivian has signed on as the sponsor for the Student Journalism Program being run by the Maldives Media Council (MMC).

During a ceremony held at the Darul Iman building on Wednesday morning, Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited, Aishath Jennifer signed on behalf of Maldivian while MMC President Ahmed Musthafa signed on behalf of the council.

Speaking during the ceremony, Musthafa noted that Maldivian is the third company to sponsor developmental programs that are being run by the council.

The Studen Journalism Program is part of the goals set by the newly elected council, where they are working to introduce and create an interest in the field for school children.

MMC highlighted that the program which began in January has already been successful in six schools, where 140 students have been trained so far. They further revealed that the program will launch in schools in Haa Alif and Haa Dhaalu Atoll in January.

Trainers for the program include long-time journalists who are experienced in the field as well.
