President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed plans to develop a resort after reclaiming the lagoon of Faafu Atoll Magoodhoo.

speaking at the inauguration of the water and sewerage network and the newly built administrative building of FENAKA Corporation on Magoodhoo Island, the President revealed ongoing negotiations with a potential partner to undertake the reclamation and development of a resort in the island's lagoon.

Regarding the development of Magoodhoo Island's airport, the President expressed that it would become one of the premier airports in the region. He highlighted several key developments, including establishing a VIP lounge, expanding the runway to 1800 metres to accommodate private jets, introducing a fuel farm to support flight operations, and providing parking spaces for private aircraft. He also noted the construction of a dedicated hotel facility to cater to the accommodation needs of flight crew during layovers.

The government opened for bids to develop two resorts in Faafu Atoll Nilandhoo last January as well. However, according to Nilandhoo Council President, Ali Ahmed, there were no interested parties fort he project.

Tourism Ministry has previously revealed that they have a policy to develop resorts in lagoons with inhabited islands. Only Kaafu Atoll Kaashidhoo and Nilandhoo has been revealed under the policy so far.
