President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday officially inaugurated the Faafu Atoll Dharanboodhoo Harbor.

The President was joined at the inauguration ceremony by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Cabinet ministers, parliamentarians, and senior government officials, in addition to the staff of government offices and institutions and members of the residential community.

Speaking at the function, the President highlighted that the congestion in Malé City stemmed from past policies that focused on centralisation, attracting people to the capital for even the most essential services and employment opportunities.

He expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions in Malé City and emphasised that the key to resolving congestion lies in developing other regions to enhance livability and provide viable alternatives.

The President acknowledged the administration's substantial progress in fulfilling its commitments to Dharanboodhoo Island. He emphasised that despite the achievements, the island community may still need to meet needs, urging residents to communicate any additional requirements or requests.

The contract for developing Dharanboodhoo Island's harbour was awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project has a value of MVR45.9 million.
