Maldives Reform Movement (MRM)'s president Ahmed Faris Maumoon has said the Elections Commission (EC) dissolved the party under corrupt influence.

EC dissolved the party after notifying on two occasions that the party does not meet the required membership numbers.

In a Tweet on Wednesday, Faris said the EC's decision was influenced and irresponsible. He added that the decision goes to show that corruption and influence continues to ruin society.

"God willing we will continue our work as per the laws and regulations, and succeed. We prize integrity over everything else and ask our members and supporters to remain vigilant in this cause," Faris said.

According to EC's website, MRM lacked 19 members to reach the 3,000 members necessary to maintain the party.
