The Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the government was aware of an imminent attack near Kenereege as well as Mary Brown and Yagoothge to endanger his life.
Speaker Nasheed's statement came in relation to the debate of West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef during the debate for a motion submitted by Thoddoo MP Hassan Shiyan.
MP Hassan Latheef highlighted that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was aware of the assassination attempt on Speaker Nasheed on May 6th, 2021. He further added that while the assassination attempt was not stopped, the government was aware of other locations where a potential attack could have happened.
MP Hassan further went on to describe the president as a threat to national security due to this.
Speaking after MP Hassan, MP Ibrahim Rasheed stated that there were unheard stories and that they were concerning.
Interrupting MP Ibrahim, Speaker Nasheed stated that the investigation into the case has revealed that the government was well aware of assassination attempts on him via bombs placed at Mary Brown, Yagoothge, and Kenereege.
MP Imthiyaz Fahmy and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla also backed these statements. As such, MP Imthiyaz noted that such an attack as a bomb blast has only been possible during the Presidency of President Solih.
