Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's security personnel has given witness statement regarding the attack on Nasheed in May 2021.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the Judge stated that there was no reason to delay taking witness statements although a request was made to delay it until Parliament Committee's inquiry report was received.

Giving his witness statement, Nasheed's security personnel stated that he was near the VIP vehicle when the explosion occurred, and that Nasheed was about 4 feet from the car. He stated that the explosion occurred before Nasheed reached the car.

The witness stated that top priority was given to taking Nasheed to the hospital although he had sustained injuries to his right hand and back in the explosion.

The state has charged 9 people over the attack on Speaker Nasheed, out of which Adhuham Ahmed has been convicted of setting off the explosion. He was sentenced to 23 years on 14 December 2021 after confessing to his crime.
