The Democrats revealed on Monday that discussions are still ongoing with Jumhooree Party (JP) regarding the upcoming Presidential Election, despite disagreements.
Fikuregge Dhirun, the faction formed by Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed within MDP had previously agreed to work with JP during the election and had begun official discussions with the party. As such, they had submitted some points to JP, which includes changing the governing system in the Maldives to a parliamentary system.
However, rumors claim that the discussions have not gone forward since JP Leader, Qasim Ibrahim does not agree on changing the governing system.
Afshan Latheef, the spokesperson for The Democrats, the party being formed by Fikuregge Dhirun noted that none of the points have been withdrawn so far and that discussions are still ongoing with JP.
Afshan further highlighted that they will be further discussing points that are in disagreement so far. She further stated that discussions might also go on with other parties.
