A man has escaped from custody in Gaafu Alif Dhaandhoo Police Station.

Police Media informed media outlets on Monday morning that the man who has been arrested in a drug-related case had escaped at 12:57am last night. They further revealed that works to locate the man are ongoing, although no further details of the fugitive were provided.

A source from Dhaandhoo revealed to One Online that the fugitive is a 48-year-old male from the island, who had been accused and arrested for drug-related cases many times before.

While a man escaped from custody at Dhaandhoo Police Station, a similar incident occurred earlier in the month where a man had escaped from the Rasdhoo Police Station. The man was remanded until the end of trial and was accused of using and trafficking drugs.

He was later located by police trying to swim away in the waters of a nearby resort.
