Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader and Maamigili constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim has said he is contesting in the presidential elections to get the country out of debt.

Qasim Ibrahim Tweeted on Saturday night that he is contesting in the elections to ensure harmony in the country and to ensure Maldives is debt free and to bring further develop the nation. He appealed to the public to support JP in their efforts to ensure this as the elections draw nearer.

"God willing, this is JP's time," Qasim said.

Qasim Ibrahim is contesting in the elections with Ilham ahmed and JP's Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim as campaign managers and special envoys.

JP is also carrying out activities to increase the number of members to the political party. As such, over 600 people signed to JP on Saturday alone.
