MDP Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail has said that MDP will not hesitate to take action against anyone, be it President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, or MDP President Mohamed Nasheed if situation calls for it.

Speaking at a press conference at MDP office on Thursday, Fayyaz said that MDP does not belong to a single person, and that a lot of leaders and activists have come and gone from the party.

Fayyaz added that no action has been taken against Nasheed although his actions are hurting the party owing to the respect the party has for him. However, Fayyaz added that if situation ever calls for action to be taken against him,

MDP will not hesitate either.

"We will take action once anyone's actions threaten a coup. If our cabinet members try to overthrow the government, we will not sit still. Action will be taken against anyone who does such," Fayyaz said.

Fayyaz added that MDP has certain procedures to follow in taking action against any member. "If such a situation arises where action needs to be taken, we will not hesitate be it President Soli or Nasheed. MDP has always worked for the betterment of the public and will continue to do so. MD does not belong to a certain person, let us all be very clear on that." Fayyaz said

He added that as the person responsible to uphold MDP's values, he has not received ample support from Nasheed, but damages to the party and its values instead.

“There’s no further damage that can be done to MDP. We have been tolerating this behaviour but won’t for long,” Fayyaz said.

He further added that Nasheed should stand together with President Solih and support him if he is to remain in MDP.
