No-confidence motion has been submitted against Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid stating that he failed to act in the best interest of Maldives in the maritime dispute between Mauritius and Maldives.
Opposition PPM/PNC, along with 'Fikurehge Dhirun' members from MDP and other opposition members have formed a coalition to submit the no-confidence motion against Minister Shahid.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, PNC's PG leader and Maduvvari constituency MP Adam Shareef confirmed the no-confidence motion has been submitted to the parliament today.
The opposition reasoned that Minister Shahid failed to advise President Solih in this matter as would benefit the Maldives the most. Additionally, the opposition also accused Minister Shahid of failing his duties as the Foreign Minister, and that he should take responsibility for the Maldivian fishermen's losses.
MP Adam Shareef said Minister Shahid should be held responsible for not fighting for the 200 nautical miles that could have been won by Maldives in this maritime dispute with Mauritius.
