MDP Chairperson and Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that the 12 members who recently quit the party were not supportive and that their departure would not cause any further harm to the party.

Senior members of the Fikuregge Dhirun movement which supports Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed had quit from the party yesterday.

Speaking during a press conference at MDP office today, Fayyaz stated that it has been about four years since they had received the support of these 12 members.

He further stated that there were hopes that these 12 members would have supported them, but after they failed to support the party, they learned of other ways to move forward.

He even stressed that they had never counted on the support of the 12 members.
