Deputy Speaker of Parliament and North Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla has revealed that Fikuregge Dhirun is now working towards forming a new political party.

Eva, along with all the key members of the Fikuregge Dhirun movement resigned from MDP today.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday evening, Eva stated that MDP has won the elections twice by working for the betterment of the people.

She added that she resigned from MDP with the hopes of serving the people better under 'Fikurehge Dhirun'. She added that MDP has lost sight of the values that made MDP the largest and most popular political party in the Maldives.

"Though MDP might have strayed from its values, we are not ready to let go of those values. We are working on forming a new political party to uphold those values and work towards them," Eva said.

She added that the public wants a presidential candidate who will work against corruption and towards freedom for the people and the country. Eva noted that the new political party will work alongside those values.

MP of HulhuMeedhoo constituency Ilyas Labeeb said the new party will be formed under 'Fikurehge Dhirun' and registration works will commence soon.

"We will hopefully complete the registration in the upcoming week. We are working on collecting the 3,000 forms needed to form the party to register 'Fikurehge Dhirun' as a political party," Ilyas said.

He added that 'Fikurehge Dhirun' will have a candidate running for presidency this year for elections.

Eva said the new party will follow all democratic values to put forth a presidential candidate and the party posts will be filled accordingly as well.
