The Criminal Court is set to deliver its verdict in the perjury case against Malé City Mayor, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu tomorrow.

The Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing of the case for 12:00pm tomorrow.

While all hearings of the case concluded on April 17th, both the defense and the prosecution presented their closing arguments during the hearing. The judge presiding over the case announced that the next hearing will be to deliver a verdict in the case.

According to judicial procedure, verdicts will be delivered after the closing statements. The verdict should be delivered 30 days after the closing arguments are presented.

Dr. Muizzu was the housing minister at the time when the agreement with Noomadi was dissolved.

Dr. Muizzu is charged with giving a false testimony in the case filed at The Hague, Netherlands, at the Permanent Court of Arbitration on 25 June 2019 by Noomadi, as a witness for the company testifying that the company was on track with the 2011 contract with the Maldivian government for the phase one of a housing unit project and a 2013 agreement for the phase two of that project.

Testimony of Dr. Muizzu also includes that he did not partake in the negotiations to retrieve Lh. Dhiffushimaadhoo from Noomadi Resorts, initially leased to develop luxury villas.
