Contracts have been awarded to build 30-bed hospitals in seven islands in the Maldives under Kuwait Fund's aid.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had stated last week that the contracts will be awarded to the companies that won the bids for the projects. As such, Health Ministry on Monday signed the contracts with the companies contracted for the projects.

Hospitals will be built in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, Sh. Milandhoo. N. Velidhoo, K. Thulusdhoo, ADh. Maamiligi, V. Felidhoo, and Th. Vilufushi. Hanimaadhoo, Maamigili, Felidhoo, and Vilufushi projects were awarded to Duplex Pvt Ltd while Milandhoo, Velidhoo, and Thulusdhoo hospital projects were awarded to Anand Buildtech Pvt Ltd.

The hospital projects are valued as follows:

  • Hanimaadhoo Hospital - MVR 90,512,216.05
  • Milandhoo Hospital - MVR 95,627,718.15
  • Velidhoo Hospital - MVR 95,627,718.15
  • Thulusdhoo Hospital - MVR 91,767,709.06
  • Maamigili Hospital - MVR 101,227,176.03
  • Felidhoo Hospital - MVR 102,049,555.63
  • Vilufushi Hospital - MVR 109,277,431.15

Speaking at the signing ceremony held on Monday, Health Minister Ahmed Naseem stated that the projects will cost a combined total of MVR 686,089,524.22.

He added that the hospitals will be equipped to cater to pandemic-like situations as well, and will include flu clinics and isolation facilities.

Additionally, each hospital will have a 150kw solar pvc system installed as well to reduce electricity charges. Minister Naseem added that the patient beds will include piped oxygen, medical air and suction. He further added that each hospital will have an oxygen plant to provide oxygen to the nearby islands.

The project is to be completed within 540 days.
