Afshan Latheef resigned as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Local Government Authority (LGA) on Monday.

Afshan was appointed to the position in 2020.

In a letter addressed to the councils announcing her resignation, Afshan thanked the councils for their cooperation and support of her work in the past three years.

The letter also highlighted her tenure as the CEO of LGA, including the work she did. She also reiterated that the success of their current projects is based on the cooperation and support of each other.

However, she did not reveal the reasoning behind her resignation. Afshan was unavailable for a comment on the matter at the time of press.

However, it is notable that her husband and former MD of STO, Hussain Amr is a senior official working on the frontlines of 'Fikuregge Dhirun', the faction of MDP supporting Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. Amr is also one of the biggest critics of President Solih.

While two factions have emerged during the competitive Presidential Primary within MDP, both Amr and Afshan had supported Speaker Nasheed during the primary.
