Criminal Court Judge Adam Mohamed has been appointed as the Chief Judge of the Court today.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) revealed on Tuesday that only one candidate had applied for the vacant position. Hence, Lhaviyani Atoll HInnavaru, Maathila Adam Mohamed have since been appointed to the role.

JSC further added that the appointment comes after an interview and advise by the relevant JSC committee.

The seat of Chief Judge at the Criminal Court was left vacant after Judge Ahmed Shakeel who previously held the position was appointed to the High Court. Judge Adam Mohamed had been running the court in the interim as well.
