Urbanco has ordered Cafés and Takeaway Shops that operate tables on the pavement to remove them.
In a statement released on Saturday, Urbanco noted that they have been receiving complaints from the public after several cafés have made it a habit to occupy the pavement area to set up tables and chairs for their business. Urbanco noted that they have found 183 tables operational at 34 streets in the suburb.
The statement highlighted that they have ordered the removal of these tables to find a solution to the issue.
Urbanco noted that takeaway shops and cafés are permitted to operate in order to make Hulhumalé a cozy place for all. They added that while pavements are public spaces, operating cafes and utilizing such spaces as part of their businesses create a negative impact on the society as a whole.
