Maldives Meteorology has stated that the current rains are part of the 'Hulhangu Monsoon' rains.
The MET Office noted that the 'Iruvai Monsoon' usually lasts from January till around March, and Hulhangu Monsoon is active between March and November.
The office further predicted strong winds and rough seas throughout the central atolls and southern atolls this Friday and Saturday. Winds of 15-20mph are expected normally with 40-50mph winds during storms. In addition to this, rough seas are expected to cause tidal swellings in some islands.
The MET office had appealed all to be wary of the bad weather and to take the necessary precautions for safety.
