Senior members of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) who support the re-election of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have decided to leave the party.

One Online has learned that some members who will submit their resignation today include Mohamed Nadheem and Vice President Shazail Shiyam, who were key figures during the party's formation. However, the information is as of yet unverified.

Even though Minister Yumna Maumoon and Minister Mohamed Hassan have disappointments regarding the party operations, it remains unclear whether they will be leaving the party or not.

As per the list that One Online had received, there are 11 names on the list of members who are going to leave the party. These include several Managing Directors and Executive Directors at state institutions who are on a slot of MRM.

Members of MRM who support the government had also met former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom last night with their concerns over how the party was being run.

A member who was present in the meeting revealed to One Online that one of the biggest concerns during the meeting was the participating of Vice President Aminath Nadira in a press conference organised by former Attorney General Dr. Mohamed Munavvar and political parties regarding the Chagos Archipelago issue without the support of the EXCO while the party has had a clear stand on the issue.

While several members have decided to leave the party, the party is yet to decide on whether they will remain in the ruling coalition or stand alone.

Nadheem and Yumna were both unavailable for a comment regarding the issue. MRM President Ahmed Faris Maumoon noted that he had not received any such news yet.
