Criminal Court has added 30 days to the remand period of Hussain Shifau, 37, Ma. Honey Suckle, who was arrested for fraudulently importing and selling goods from various foreign companies using counterfeit TT copies.

Prosecutor General's (PG) Office has brought forward 23 charges against Shifau in this case.

Shifau was arrested for using counterfeit TT's to fraudulently import goods on 28 March 2023.

The charges brought forward against Shifau include money laundering and intentionally falsifying documents. PG Office said Shifau could be jailed for 38 years if the charges are proven against him.

PG Office further stated that Shifau committed the crimes along with another person, through 'Kingdom of Fruits' - a company registered at the Economic Ministry - to import goods from foreign companies using counterfeit TTs.

According to PG Office, the counterfeit TT's amount to USD 123,844.54 (MVR 1.9 million).
