Parliament Committee on Social Affairs has passed a motion seeking to include fertility treatments under Aasandha.
The resolution was submitted by South Galholhu MP Meekail Ismail and was sent to the committee for research after being accepted by the parliament.
The committee in their decision had also moved to include fertility treatments across all state-run hospitals in the country. In addition to this, they also decided to get the relevant authorities to conduct a nationwide research on the impact of infertility on the lowered fertility rate of the Maldives.
Aasandha company noted that this is a big change and stated that under the national social health insurance scheme gazetted on 28th February 2015, fertility treatments are not covered by Aasandha as stipulated in Clause 18 (N).
They noted that treatments are not covered, even with a doctor's letter.
However, Aasandha occasionally covers tests and analysis used to determine causes of infertility.
