Urbanco has warned that Hiyaa flats will be re-possessed if tenants are found throwing away still-lit cigarette filters around.
The warning was issued following a fire incident in Hiyaa Tower 7 on Friday night when a fire started in an apartment's balcony.
Urbanco issued a statement which read that the Hiyaa agreements include a public safety clause banning residents from any and all activities that could disrupt the peace and safety of any resident.
The statement further read that smoking, vaping, and throwing away still-lit filters in the premises is not allowed and offenders will be punished.
"Depending on the severity of the violation of agreement, a fine between MVR 1,000 - 100,000 will be imposed," Urbanco said. The company added that the units violating the terms of agreement and safety of the residents will be re-possessed.
Urbanco stated that the two fire incidents at Hiyaa residences this Ramadan were caused by negligence of the residents smoking in the premises.
