Nasheed: Flats given as bribes by Pres. Yameen were built by MDP govt.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the flats given out as bribes by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had been built by the previous MDP government.

President Nasheed said this while speaking at a campaign event at Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo regarding MDP’s Parliamentary campaign policy, Agenda ‘19.

He said that the flats given as bribes by President Yameen were 4,000 unit flats that had been built before the fall of President Nasheed’s presidency.

President Nasheed noted that not a citizen of Maldives has actually benefited from or gotten housing under the flats or contracts undertaken during President Yameen’s administration.

He highlighted however that a bunch of “birdcages” initiated by the former administration of President Yameen are being constructed in Hulhumale’.

President Nasheed noted that all the people today who have acquired flats are living in housing units built through MDP’s efforts in acquiring the contract and completing construction.
