Maldives Reform Movement (MRM) has accepted an invitation by Jumhooree Party Leader, Qasim Ibrahim, to discuss a potential coalition with the party ahead of the upcoming 2023 Presidential Election.
MRM is currently part of the ruling coalition, alongside MDP and JP.
Qasim, also the presidential candidate of JP, had extended invitations for a coalition to a total of five parties. These include former Home Minister Umar Naseer, former Attorney General Mohamed Munawwar, MNP, and PPM. However, only MRM accepted the invitation.
MRM Vice President Aminath Nadira revealed to One Online today that they had accepted JP's invitation and are open to discussions. However, she did not reveal when these discussions are expected.
MDP's Presidential Candidate, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had also extended an invitation to MRM to sustain the existing coalition. Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom held discussions with the President regarding the invitation, the details of which still remain unclear.
