Provisional data of Census 2022 has revealed that the total population of the Maldives has surpassed 500,000.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) conducted a nationwide census last year. The bureau published provisional data from the census today.

According to the publication, a total of 515,122 people live in the country. This includes 382,751 Maldivians and 132,371 Foreigners. Approximately 26% of the population are foreigners. For every 3 Maldivian, there is one Foreigner living in the Maldives.

The publication also revealed that the resident population of the capital city Malé is 212,138 which includes 161,108 Maldivians and 51,030 foreigners. The total number of Maldivians living in admin islands excluding Malé are 204,277 with 32,470 foreigners.

The data also noted that 15,689 Maldivians were living in resorts alongside 36,707 foreigners. The total number of Maldivians in industrial zones and other islands included 1,677 and 12,164 foreigners.

The distribution of the resident population by place of enumeration shows that about 41% of the resident population lives in Malé. Majority of the population still lives in Admin islands which is about 46%. About 10% of the resident population lives in resorts.
