'Industrial Relations Bill' submitted to parliament

The Government has submitted 'Industrial Relations Bill' to the Parliament on Wednesday.

The Bill would legally guarantee worker's and employer's the rights to form and operate unions.

Under the Bill, workers and employers can form or join unions without prior approval from a third party.

As per the Bill, a federation can be formed to work together with the unions, and a 'National Trade Union Centre' and 'National Employers Union Centre' can be registered as well.

A registrar of unions needs to be appointed in order to form unions. The appointment shall be made by the President for a period of 5 years. The registrar of unions will be tasked with registering federations and unions as well as monitoring the latter.
