Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer has stated that the government is working through STO to ensure that prices do not see drastic hikes during this Ramadan.

Kaashidoo Member of Parliament Abdulla Jabir quizzed the finance minister on the government's efforts to ensure that prices are controlled during the month of Ramadan. In response, the Minister highlighted that each Ramadan prices see a significant increase due to an increase in demand.

The Minister stated that STO is currently working on various things to ensure that the impact of this is as minimal as possible. As such, they are working to bring down market prices by STO imports, which increase the supply of goods in the market.

The Minister noted that the country has now overcome the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the economy picking up pace. In light of this, revisions to wages are in the works. The Minister highlighted that under this, teachers have now seen positive changes to their salaries while health sector workers will see a similar change in May.
